On the FAFSA they ask if you have filed yourreturn or not. In this case, the info would be foryour parents. If the answer is no, then you areasked to give estimates for the questions askedabout their finances. After they file their taxes, then you go back to the FAFSA on-line and put inthe finalized numbers.

What I did when I was applying to college was thatI used my parent's tax return from the yearbefore. Provided that both of your parents arestill working in the same place and haven't gottena major raise, this should be a good estimate andyou can always update it (well, you HAVE toupdate) with the current info once your parentsfile their returns this year. As long as you havethe estimate in before the deadline though, youshould be fine. It may be a little weird to followbecause the line numbers on the FAFSA will bereferring to this year's tax forms, but as long asyou pay attention to what each line is asking for,it's really no problem. Good luck! :)

Answer #4
When you file your FAFSA, your parents can showtheir estimated income and check the box thattheir taxes are not completed. In that way, youcan file on time. Once your parents have theirtaxes completed, you or they will need to go backinto the FAFSA site and change the income infoaccordingly.
