Question : Can a merchant limit the amount I charge to my credit card in one transaction?
I have the cash to buy a new car, but want to put it on my credit card for rewards. The dealership says it will only allow me to put up to $5,000 on my card. My credit limit is $30,000. Can the dealership do this?

All Answers: Answer #1 The dealership has limits as to how much they canaccept on a card, imposed by their bank. So, yesthey can. Think about this...you buy a car, chargeit to your credit card, and then dispute thecharges once you recieve the title. That's a hugerisk that their bank is not willing to take and ifyou were the bank then you'd want to reduce yourexposure to risk as well. Maybe you can use one ofthe checks that your credit card mails you andstill get your rewards? - answered by macaca
