Question : What kind of home loan interest rate could I get with a bankruptcy on my record?
I have a chapter 7 bankruptcy on my record from 2003, but I have no debt and a credit score of about 700. And I have $20,000 for a down payment. If I got a home loan, would the bankruptcy make a huge difference in the interest rate? How big a difference?

Well if you haven't been discharged from yourbankruptcy usually 7-10 years you may still beable to qualify if you've had a good re-paymenthistory for the last 2-3 years.Depending on thelender they may have mercy on your current creditor make you pay for your past. Shop around and usea credible broker.

It all would depend on the amount of the mortgageand the term. Find out exactly what amount youwould want financed. The shorter the term thebetter and lower the interest rate. For example,in Charleston- a 150K loan 15yr fixed rates lowestaverage percentage is at 3%.... whereas a 30yrfixed, the lowest is a 5.875% try lending tree.comyou'll have an answer in less than a day fromseveral lenders....Yes....even with yourbankruptcy in 03.... you'd be amazed.

I had a bankruptcy back in 2001. My husband and Ibought a house in 2004, and my credit score wasabout 700 as well. We had no problem getting thelow interest rates that were available at thetime. You have a fairly large down payment too,so depending on the cost of the house you want tobuy, you should have no problems getting the lowerrates. I think the standard rate right now isabout 5.5-6.5%.
