Question : How do you fill out your fafsa when your financial situation has changed?
How am I supposed to fill out my fafsa information for the next school year when my financial situation is not the same as it is on my taxes for last year. I was recently laid off my job and the only income we have now is my husbands, do I still fill it out as I normally would with my last years tax information?

All Answers: Answer #1 You still fill it out normally like you did lastyear. After you get your award letter you canmake an appeal to the financial aid office. However, you're getting it done kind of late, soyou might not get approved for more. - answered by altaira_3
Answer #2 Most people's tax information changes from year toyear with the loss or addition of income. Youstill file your FAFSA from last years tax return(but you need to do it right away, you should fileit in February is you can, the earlier you file, the more likely you are to end up with as muchmoney as you are eligible for; they only have somuch money for grants). If you feel that you arein trouble and need more help with aid (that lossof income won't apply yo help you get aid untilnext year) you can file a special circumstancesdocument with the school. This will help yo to getmore aid if you don't receive enough by far andcould not attend school from your income loss. - answered by Amber Marie
Answer #3 PBE:The FAFSA application process does not provideany type of allowance for "changed circumstances",but your school's financial aid office will.Whenyou complete the FAFSA, you must provide the exactinformation requested - for the exact time periodspecified. In other words, where the form asks forinformation about your 2008 tax returns, you'llhave to respond with the information, exactly asit was filed.HOWEVER....Financial aid officers areall permitted to make adjustments to a student'said offer if the student is able to document thathis/her FAFSA application is no longerrepresentative of their current economiccircumstances.Typical "changed circumstances"situations include:Layoff of the student and/orthe spouse or parent(s)Illness orinjuryDisabilityHurricane, flood, tornado orearthquake damageComplete the FAFSA as normal -but contact financial aid, and ask them what youneed to do to make a changed circumstances appeal.I can't promise that they will make changes toyour offer, but I can guarantee you that they willcertainly consider it.Good luck to you - I hopethis helps you and good luck on the job front, too! - answered by NotAnyoneYouKnow
