Question : How can the FAFSA form for the 2010-2011 school year have a priority deadline of February 1st?
Some parents don't even get their W2 forms until after February 1st, so they don't know what their gross income is, let alone their adjusted gross income. If somebody that is filling out the FAFSA 2010-2011 school year form or somebody else who knows can help me clear this up, that would be great. Thank you.

Answer #3 The priority deadline you mentioned is most likelyfor your school or your state. The feds don't seta particular priority deadline. My state (TN) hasa priority deadline of Feb 15 because a need-basedstate grant which has limited funding is expectedto run out of funds on that day or soon after. Students can certainly file the FAFSA after then, but they won't be considered for that particulargrant. The FAFSA will allow you to file based onestimated tax info, even if the actual tax returnhasn't been prepared yet. You can use your prioryear tax return (2008, in this case) and yourfinal 2009 pay stubs to make an "educated guess"about what your income will be and what your taxamount will be. Then once you file your real taxreturn, compare it with the FAFSA estimates. Ifyour guess was wrong, contact your school and havethem tell you whether changes need to be made. Inmany cases, they'll have you submit the taxreturns to them so that they can make thecorrections for you. - answered by happyhedgehogs
