Question : Is student loan debt taken into consideration when a landlord approves a tenant for leasing an apartment?
I'm a recent college graduate with a steady income and a student loan that is not in default. I'm looking to lease an apartment, and I heard that landlords are not allowed to count student loan debt against a person when evaluating their credit and debt. Is this true?

All Answers: Answer #1 I've never heard of this, but it doesn't makecommon sense. Landlords are checking credit tosee if a potential tenant will be able to upholdthe financial obligations of a lease (i.e. payrent). Having a loan, any loan, will meanobligations to another company and dip into theamount of money you have available for rent. - answered by Alex
