Reviews: Short and unfortunate answer: Avoid Banking with them if possible. There is no financial benefit and in many cases it will cost you more to bank with them. Higher fees slow tiny fee progressions no service improvements decreased services. First Citizens Bank was Venture Bank before being forcibly purchased by First Citizens BancShares Inc of North Carolina late last year. Read more about that here http://xrl.in/54hk Venture Bank was a local bank with headquarters in DuPont and Lacey. They also had incredible customer service as well as some of the most customer oriented banking policies that Ive ever seen. Deposits being immediately available an automated card stop which did not allow you to spend more than you had at any given time so that you couldnt overdraft your account on accident or even on purpose for that matter financial incentives for responsible banking that would wind up making your account free if you followed their advice. There were many many other benefits to banking with Venture Bank . Enter First Citizens Bank. And with them arrives the following changes: 1.No over-draft protection. More than one customer being charged $35.00 for going $0.73 cents over at the end of the month. This kind if activity is nothing but extortion and should be illegal. 2.Decreased customer service. The overall atmosphere has changes significantly. No longer very friendly you have the feeling that you are there to serve the bank rather than the bank being grateful for your patronage. 3. Small policy changes designed to cost you money and make them more. This in and of itself should be enough reason to bank elsewhere. Tiny fees for everything. 4. Insecure and Privacy Violating On-line banking. Without going into alot of technical detail First Citizens requires a persistent cookie be embedded in your Web browser. There is currently much debate about this mostly from banking institutions that want to use them and security experts that are advising against it. Persistent Cookies can be counterfeit. Unless your PC is iron clad it opens you to a myriad of potential personal security issues.. The only real benefit to using a persistent cookie is for the person demanding its use. It SEVERLY encroaches on your personal privacy enabling tracking of your computer habits. This policy alone should send up red flags when assessing First Citizens. In short Ive watched the transition from Venture Bank to First Citizens carefully and with disappointment. For the level of bureaucracy and fee creation that occurs at First Citizens you would expect some sort of financial benefit. I just cant find one. They seem to have that Big Bank entitlement attitude while offering no benefits for enduring it. I recommend if you have to deal with a big bank mentality you at least go somewhere where you can get some of the benefits of a Big Bank...24hour banking no ATM fees etc...
